IT has been a decade of unprecedented success for Celtic on the domestic scene, and memorably on occasion in Europe too. From the lows of the Tony Mowbray era, Neil Lennon ‘bringing back the thunder’, the days of the Ronny Deila roar through to the unparalleled success of the Brendan Rodgers era, Celtic end the decade with eight league titles, five Scottish Cups and five League Cups to show for their efforts. And with Lennon back in charge, they start the next decade going for glory once more in the Premiership and fighting it out in the Europa League last 32.

Picking out the highs from 10 years of wonderful moments for Celtic supporters is no mean feat, but here are five memorable goals that shaped the decade for the Hoops, with the scorers etching their names into the club’s history.

FIVE – SCOTT SINCLAIR KICKS OFF THE BRENDAN RODGERS ERA WITH LATE WINNER AT TYNECASTLE

With the scores locked at one goal apiece in the first league match of the Rodgers era against Hearts, Sinclair replaced Stuart Armstrong to make his Celtic debut during the second half. His impact would be immediate.

In the dying moments of the game, Leigh Griffiths raced down the left, lifted his head, and picked out a low cross into the path of Sinclair who had got himself goal-side of his marker.

The winger produced a deft finish to send the Celtic support behind the goal wild, give his manager three points in his first match, and set the tone for a wildly successful period for the club under the former Liverpool boss.

Sinclair would go on to net 25 goals in all competitions that season, sweeping the boards at the end of season player of the year awards. Celtic would go on to make it a clean sweep of domestic trophies, and the rest, as they say, is history.

FOUR – MOUSSA DEMBELE FLICKS CELTIC INTO FIRST FINAL UNDER RODGERS IN WIN OVER RANGERS

Another goal that shaped the first season of the Rodgers era, and again Griffiths was the provider.

Celtic had dominated the Old Firm League Cup semi-final in October 2016, but couldn’t find a way through the Rangers rearguard. Then with three minutes left, their French striker continued his sensational start to life in Scotland with the cheekiest of finishes to send Celtic into the final against Aberdeen.

Griffiths got on the end of a long ball down the right and centred for his strike partner with the outside of his left foot. Dembele ran across the front post, allowing the ball to carry through before backheeling it through the legs of Rangers goalkeeper Matt Gilks.

Celtic went on to lift the first trophy of their current treble Treble run by beating Aberdeen in the final.

THREE – OLIVIER NTCHAM HELPS CELTIC AND NEIL LENNON CONQUER ROME

A more recent entry in the top five, Ntcham’s injury-time strike in November sealed Celtic’s qualification from a tough-looking Europa League group, and gave them their second 2-1 win over Italian giants Lazio in the process.

Celtic had fallen behind to an early Ciro Immobile strike, and the stage looked set for Simone Inzaghe’s side to claim revenge for their defeat at Celtic Park a fortnight prior.

James Forrest came up with an equaliser, and then, with the game stretched as both sides looked for a winner, Celtic broke.

The fresh legs of Ntcham were to prove critical, as Odsonne Edouard took advantage of a tired pass from the home side to feed the ball through to the midfielder to clip coolly over Thomas Strakosha in the fifth and final minute of injury-time.

It was the first win by Celtic on Italian soil at their 13th attempt, and the sight of 9000 delirious visiting fans behind the goal in the Stadio Olimpico to savour the moment made it all the more special.

TWO – TOM ROGIC’S LIGHTNING STRIKE TO PIP ABERDEEN TO SCOTTISH CUP GLORY

Yet another late strike makes the list, as Celtic’s propensity to keep going until the final whistle is highlighted once again.

It was an epic final between Celtic and Aberdeen at a clammy, soaking Hampden Park, as future Celtic player Jonny Hayes moved the Dons ahead, only for Stuart Armstrong to cancel out his strike moments later.

There were chances at both ends in a pulsating second half, but as the clock ticked into added-on time, and just as a bolt of lightning streaked across the grey Mount Florida sky, Rogic set off on a mazy run and slipped the ball under Joe Lewis at his near post to spark wild scenes of celebration.

The iconic image of Craig Gordon sinking to his knees and roaring to the heavens in delight marked the deliverance of Celtic’s first domestic treble of the current run, an unbroken sequence of trophy success that continues to this day.

ONE – TONY WATT’S SENSATIONAL CLINCHER SINKS BARCELONA SUPERSTARS

Lazio away was one thing, but Neil Lennon guided Celtic to an even more impressive victory in Europe with this sensational Champions League win over perhaps the greatest club side of the decade back in 2012.

Victor Wanyama had stunned the Catalans as his first-half header from a Charlie Mulgrew corner put Celtic ahead, but Tito Villanova’s star-studded side settled back into their mesmerising passing game. For all their domination though, having 89 percent possession, 25 shots and 14 of those being on target, Fraser Forster and co stood strong.

Then, 19-year-old Watt climbed off the bench to send Celtic Park into rapture. A long punt from Forster was uncharacteristically misjudged by Xavi, and Watt raced clear to slide under Victor Valdes.

There was still time for Lionel Messi to tap home in injury-time to ensure a nervous finale, but Celtic held on for one of the best results in their long history, and one of the finest nights that Celtic Park has witnessed.
