RICHARD Walker (May 19) refers to the comments by Alex Cole-Hamilton that “those who seek to see the establishment of a separate state of Scotland are lost in mythology”.

I have many friends in Slovenia which, until 1991, was part of Yugoslavia. This little country with a population of 2.1 million had been absolutely dominated by its larger Croatian and Serbian neighbours.

Try telling the Slovenes that life would be so much better if they were still part of a bigger federation. Life was hard when they broke away but now, while not perfect, they live in a prosperous (and beautiful) independent country within the EU.
