£400,000 could far better have been spent on something useful (like, say, food banks) instead of on a Margaret Thatcher statue – an utterly totally useless vanity project (Margaret Thatcher statue egged by protester in Grantham, thenational.scot, May 15). I seem to recall that after the poll tax (about 20 years ago), much to the delight of everyone (except the Tories), an eight foot, two tonne marble statue of Margaret Thatcher, which was in at the Guildhall Art Gallery in London, was decapitated.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
