IN Saturday’s National Chris McEleny claims Alba “has already established itself with two MPs and a score of local councillors". If these MPs and councillors are ever elected as Alba Party members, he will indeed be able to claim this. Currently what Alba has are defectors elected to serve a different party.

Our local branch campaigned and got a councillor elected. He subsequently defected to another party, served out the rest of his term in that other party, stood for re-election for his other party and was heavily defeated. Given that a recent poll has Alex Salmond, leader of Alba party as less trusted than Boris Johnson, I hae ma doots about Alba’s potential.

I would like to see representatives who are elected with any party assistance and then defect should face re-election, to establish whether those who elected them are supportive of their change or not.
