THE headline on yesterday’s National (SNP fury over ‘breathtaking arrogance’ as PM stands by Cummings, May 25) was utterly counterproductive.

At a time when the Scottish Government is presenting itself as calm and responsible you undermine them by claiming they are “furious” at the “breathtaking arrogance” of the UK Government.

They are NOT furious. They are “bemused”. They are “astonished”. They may even be “utterly confounded by the irrational behaviour of No 10”.

They stand in stark contrast to the “semi-coherent bizarre behaviours being displayed down south”.

They “cannot comprehend the back-biting and division within the government in England at such a critical time”.

BUT they are not furious.

They don’t do “fury”. Fury does not sway soft No voters.

They do competent, grown-up government ... so stop undermining them.
