AS far as I know this government has not asked the over-70s for their views on the treatment of this epidemic. I am 81 years old and would rather choose to run the risk of exposure to the virus than go down the road we are on.

Despite the macho stance taken by our leaders, the cost will be prohibitive. It will leave the NHS on its knees and the economy in tatters. The only certainty about this will be a severe loss of civil liberties as the government tightens its grip on our lives.

What happened to the Hippocratic Oath, which vows to treat patients as best they can but “shall not strive, officiously to keep alive”?

It requires us to be brave and face up to it so that we can build up an immunity in our young people.
