WHEN Farage was confronted with questions about the funding of his lifestyle by Aaron Banks, his reply was “That’s personal!” A few weeks ago, when Jacob-Rees Mogg was asked about his million-pound hedge fund in Dublin he said: “That’s personal!”
Is this the new mantra for the shady money transactions that seem to be rife in the wannabes and manipulators of public opinion? Why do they think that makes them unaccountable to the general public whose support they so pompously expect? Funding ambition or a new career is NOT what seeking public office should be about, but very clearly the Trump fiasco in the States and the Brexit referendum dark money and Brexit Party show otherwise.
What has happened to the law in this country when so many of these people seem to be able to sidestep accountability and honesty, and have investigations deferred and subsequently disappear into the mists of time ... or have they bought the law too? You and I would be up in front of the Beak for any such questionable antics.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
