A THIEF who stole £37 worth of food from a Greenock store whilst intoxicated on 'street valium' has been fined three-times that amount at the sheriff court.

Andrew Derrick, 29, pleaded guilty at the sheriff court to stealing items from Iceland on Westburn Street.

Defence lawyer Ellen Macdonald said: "Mr Derrick was abusing street valium and his life was somewhat chaotic at the time."

Derrick, of Arran Avenue in Port Glasgow, committed the offence on May 25, prior to serving a seven-month prison sentence for another matter.

He has been fined £110.
