SARAH Ferguson has her sights set on an Outlander star to play the lead male role in a new TV adaption of her novel.

A Most Intriguing Lady, released in August last year, was described by Ferguson on Good Morning Britain as “Peaky Blinders meets Pride and Prejudice”.

And now Ferguson has said she wants Sam Heughan to take on a role in the show.

The book focuses on a Duke’s daughter in Victorian London who secretly works as an amateur detective.

Heughan stars as Jamie in Outlander, based on a series of books by Diana Gabaldon. The seventh and final season of the hit show will air this June.

Ferguson said: “This is book two so I am getting more confident.”

Asked about the adaptation, she said: “The TV series is going to be very exciting because I want Jamie (Heughan) to come out of Outlander and into my TV series, I’m just putting it out there, right Jamie?

“Of course Claire (Caitriona Balfe's Outlander character) would be upset. Anyone watching Outlander?”

The show’s host Kate Garraway then said: “You want to get them?”

Ferguson replied: “Yes! It’s going to be very exciting and I’m going to win an Emmy."
