AN unexploded bomb has been found on a building site close to a Scottish railway, forcing a section of the track to be closed.

Network Rail Scotland made the announcement on Twitter, stating that the Muirend to Neilston line, in the southern Greater Glasgow area, is temporarily closed.

They added that local police have implemented an exclusion zone for public safety reasons, which includes a section of the track.

ScotRail later tweeted to confirm that affected passengers can use their train tickets on the number 3, 54 and 103 buses while the situation is defused.

They also said that replacement buses are being organised.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of an unexploded ordnance having been found at a construction site on Springfield Road in Barrhead around 10.05am on Thursday, 29 September, 2022.

“The road is closed and a cordon is in place. EOD have been contacted.”
