SCOTLAND is set to host a leading film festival that will shed light on global social justice and how land is used to oppress international communities.
The fifteenth edition of the Take One Action! film festival will be held across four major Scottish cities, with weekends in Edinburgh (September 16-18), Glasgow (September 23-25), Aberdeen (October 21-23) and Inverness (October 28-30) - with special screenings on Tiree (September 17) and Lochgilphead (September 24) as well.

This year’s theme is “The Land Beneath Our Feet” and will chart connections between Scotland and other international communities, while also highlighting how land is used as a stage for violence and resistance.
The festival will include features on UK migrant justice, Palestinian foraging practices and Filipino land defence. Organisers say the lineup invites audiences to “unearth networks of solidarity across all kinds of borders” and “envision our embeddedness within them”.
Highlights of the festival are set to include Sonita Gale’s documentary Hostile which explores the impacts of then home secretary Theresa May’s “hostile environments policy” and the Scottish premiere of Jumana Manna’s Foragers, which explores how Israel criminalised foraging native plants in occupied Palestine.
Daisy Crooke, Take One Action! events & communities officer, said: “Take One Action! was set up in 2008 to bring people together and nurture the conversations and questions at the heart of positive social change. At a time when the notions of solidarity, equality and justice seem increasingly under threat, it feels more vital than ever to find connection and unearth optimism through shared cinematic experiences.
“This year’s programme explores terrains of hostility and oppression, spotlighting bold stories of resistance and inviting us to come together in uprooting systems of injustice to make space for planting seeds of community, dynamism, and hope.”
