CAMPAIGN group Enough is Enough has announced its Scottish launch will be held in Glasgow on Wednesday.

The organisation, backed by RMT boss Mick Lynch, describes itself as a "campaign to fight the cost-of-living crisis" and has listed five demands to the UK Government.

They are:

1. A real pay rise

2. Slash energy bills

3. End food poverty

4. Decent homes for all

5. Tax the rich

On Wednesday, the group will come to Glasgow's Old Fruitmarket with speakers including Scottish Trade Unions Congress general secretary Roz Foyer, Communication Workers Union general secretary Dave Ward, human rights lawyer Aamer Anwar as well as representatives from Living Rent and Power to the People Glasgow.

The group said that more than 100,000 people joined the campaign in its first 24 hours, causing its website to briefly crash.

Its site reads: "Fair pay, affordable bills, enough to eat and a decent place to live. These aren’t luxuries – they are your rights!

"We were founded by trade unions and community organisations determined to push back against the misery forced on millions by rising bills, low wages, food poverty, shoddy housing – and a society run only for a wealthy elite."

The group has recently blown up in popularity, amassing nearly 200,000 Twitter followers in the few short weeks since its creation.

Its video, featuring RMT secretary general Lynch and Labour MP Zarah Sultana, has 5.7 million views on the social media platform.

It calls on people across the UK to turn their anger into action and demand the Government do more to help people during the cost-of-living crisis.

A spokesperson for Enough is Enough said: "We cannot wait until the desperate & poor are negated as human beings - power rests with the people, it’s time our movement united and brought this inhumane Tory government to its knees.

"This winter people are going to die, others will lose their homes, face making choices between food and heating or both, we don’t have the luxury of waiting for politicians to get their act together, so trade unions and the working class will just have to do it for them.”

Leading criminal defence lawyer Anwar said: "We cannot wait until the desperate & poor are negated as human beings - power rests with the people, it’s time our movement united and brought this inhumane Tory government to its knees.

STUC general secretary Foyer said: “Working people have been shafted long enough from an economy that doesn’t work for them, propped up by Westminster politicians who don’t care for them. A changing of the guard in Downing Street helps nothing.

“Unions in Scotland are striking back against poverty pay and uniting with our communities to say enough is enough. Collective campaigning has yielded results but there’s more to be done.

“The Scottish Government, responsible for public sector pay, housing, public transport and rent controls, must listen to our voices.

"We will rally with Enough is Enough on Wednesday and on Thursday we will march on the Scottish Parliament to demand a decent pay rise for all public service workers.

“We are in the battle of our lives and we intend to win it.”

The launch will be held at 7pm on Wednesday at the Old Fruitmarket, 100 Candlebriggs, Glasgow G1 1NQ.
