A PRO-INDEPENDENCE protest is set to take place at the Conservative Party leadership hustings in Perth.

All Under One Banner announced on Twitter that they would be calling for “maximum attendance” at the event on August 16.

The campaign group said: “We hereby call a protest at the Perth Tory leadership hustings.

The National:

“We call for maximum attendance from independence supporters at this protest.

“The Tories have no mandate to rule in Scotland! Independence is our right to decide. Further info to come.”

The Fair City will host a debate between Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak in-front of local Conservative party members.

It is one of 12 hustings taking place across the UK between now and the end of August.

The last Conservative Party leadership hustings between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt in 2019 was also held in Perth.

Pete Wishart, SNP MP for Perth and North Perthshire, said the city was “distinctly unenthusiastic” about once again hosting the event.

Pro-independence campaigners gathered outside Perth Concert Hall during the 2019 event, waving Saltires and Yes flags.

A banner which read “End London Rule” was also draped from one of the city’s bridges.

Liz Truss has said she would deny any request for a second independence referendum if she becomes Prime Minister while Rishi Sunak has said indyref2 is “not a priority” for the people of Scotland.
