THE biggest showcase of contemporary art in Scotland is returning to Glasgow next week.

The Art Car Boot Sale will take place in SWG3 from June 25 to 26 and is set to feature 52 artists and six artist collectives.

Curated by the Patricia Fleming Gallery, the art sale will feature Turner Prize nominees, internationally acclaimed and recognised artists, and emerging artists.

Patricia Fleming said: “Previous Art Car Boot Sales have surpassed our expectations, helping artists to pay for studio rents and other overheads. Studios and materials are necessary to make the art shaping our cultural legacy.

“Our contemporary artists are a major contributor to Scotland’s outstanding artistic profile on the international stage.

“Events like Art Car Boot Sale bring into focus the role the visual arts contribute to Scotland’s economy and the positive effect art has on our wellbeing, both important factors in our collective recovery from the pandemic.”

2022’s rendition of the event will be the first Art Car Boot Sale since 2019 as the sale was unable to operate in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19.

The upcoming sale will see new, old and previously unseen work for sale.

Artists will sell their work from boots of cars and vans, as well as on bikes and skateboards, allowing visitors to meet the artists in person.

Artist Chris Bryant said: “Art Car Boot Sale is a welcome respite from the traditional gallery setting.

“It’s easily accessible and less daunting for those wanting to view lots of artwork in a relaxed and fun way.

“Where gallery exhibitions often focus on finished artworks and installations, Art Car Boot Sale is a great way to see how many artists work on marquettes and studies, often with access to smaller studios.”
