SCOTTISH vintage lifestyle specialist Scaramanga is set to make a big screen appearance once more, this time in the latest instalment of JK Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts series: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

The retailer, whose products have already been used in 16 blockbuster movies, will be providing props for use in the new movie, set in the world of Harry Potter.

More than 33 padlocks were purchased for the production, which represents the third major film to have utilised these padlocks in as many months, with Ridley Scott’s Death On The Nile remake and The Batman also making use of the vintage designs.

The company is celebrating this as a “Hollywood hat-trick,” it being a record business year for them, being involved in six different films.

Film and TV production is a growing sector in Scotland and brought in £42 million to Glasgow last year, before even considering the rest of the country.

Based in Fife, Scaramanga sells vintage homeware, furniture, bags and accessories, both online and from their Cupar HQ.

And it’s not simply its padlocks that have reached our screens. The company has provided a Prestcold fridge to Call The Midwife, a leather suitcase to Laurel and Hardy biopic Stan And Ollie, and a set of school ropes to the live-action remake of Disney classic Dumbo.

Previous films to have included the company’s wares include The Hobbit, Paddington 2, Maleficent, and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

Discussing the company’s latest developments and successes, Scaramanga founder and managing director Carl Morenikeji said: “Seeing our products used in film and TV productions is always a special moment, but to have grown our reputation for vintage and antique lifestyle products to the point where we have them in Hollywood movies being released in three consecutive months and six in one year is far beyond anything I could have imagined when our antique trunks and chests appeared in our first movie, Dark Shadows, 10 years ago.

“I’m grateful to the props buyers for their loyalty in using us and our staff for continuing to meet their needs so well and quickly, which is often a crucial factor when props are needed for a scene being shot the next day.”

As a celebration of its on-screen success, Scaramanga is running competitions to win a “trick” padlock, where participants must “solve a puzzle to unlock and an antique box with a secret compartment”, as well as an in-store challenge to win the contents of a box, if only you can work out how to get into it.
