THE number of Scots in hospital with Covid-19 has continued to drop off the record highs recorded earlier in the week, the latest daily figures show.

Public Health Scotland data showed there were 2306 people in Scottish hospitals with the disease, down 99 on the record high of 2405 reported on Sunday.

However, the latest figures also report a further 33 deaths of coronavirus patients.

This brings the total under this measure - of people who died within 28 days of testing positive - to 11,615.

There were also a further 6778 new cases of Covid-19 recorded in the last 24 hours. Of these, 10.9% were reinfections.

In terms of the vaccination effort, 4,367,783 people have received their first Covid jag, 4,096,768 have received their second, and have 3,457,079 received a third dose or booster.
