RESIDENTS on a Perth street have been evacuated after a chimney stack and brickwork on a gable end collapsed.

Parts of a building on Friar Street, close to the train station in the city’s Craigie area, crashed into the street – smashing into a bin area.

Fire engines were on the scene shortly after the collapse, and police later cordoned off the affected area.

No injuries were recorded.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 12.10pm on Monday, January 17, police were called to the Friar Street area of Perth, following reports of a chimney collapsing.

"There were no injuries, but residents from a number of properties have been evacuated whilst safety checks are ongoing."
