EDINBURGH has been crowned the best city in the UK for cultural attractions.

Scotland’s capital was rated highest thanks to its well-reviewed attractions and multiple festivals.

Holidu, the search engine for holiday rentals, compiled the Google reviews for all cultural attractions in UK cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants.

Museums, art galleries, libraries, theatres, and cinemas have been considered, with the top 10 being made up of the cities with the highest average rating of these attractions.

Edinburgh scored an average of 4.61 stars out of five to be rated as the best city in the UK with top-rated cultural attractions.

The city is bursting with a variety of cultural offerings, from museums and art galleries to theatres and comedy clubs.

Edinburgh is known worldwide for its Fringe Festival

Most notably, Edinburgh is home to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world’s largest arts festival that takes place in August every year and sees performers flock from all over the world to take part in the event.

Edinburgh is also the world’s first-appointed Unesco City of Literature.

Portsmouth came second with an average review score of 4.61 stars out of five.

The city is informally named the “City of Museums” due to its wide array of museums and art galleries and is praised for its wider arts scene.

Newcastle landed bronze with an average review rating of 4.59 out of five. Reviewers noted the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art located on the banks of the River Tyne at Gateshead and Anthony Gormley's Angle of the North statue as top attractions.
