THE latest vaccination rates for 12-15-year-olds have been published, revealing that Dumfries and Galloway has the highest level of take-up of all local authority areas across England and Scotland.

As of October 16, the area has seen 62.9% of children in the age bracket get their Covid-19 jag, according to the estimated cumulative take-up rates from the UK Government’s coronavirus dashboard.

Perth and Kinross also has a high level of take-up (62.6%) while Orkney is close behind on 61.8%.

Meanwhile the Scottish area lagging behind is the Highlands, where just 17% of 12-15-year-olds have taken the opportunity to get the vaccine.

Rates in England are lower than most Scottish areas, with Wokingham, an area in Berkshire, the English location with the highest take-up rate at 36.2%.

The vaccine is being offered to children aged 12-15, but unlike those in the older age groups most are only given one dose in order to achieve the best protection against the virus.

Some children, including those at high risk or who live with people likely to get infections, are offered two doses.
