NICOLA Sturgeon shared stunning footage of her arrival in Iceland before speaking to the Arctic Circle Assembly later today.

The First Minister is arriving in the country 24 hours after she delivered a TED Talk promoting Scotland’s work in the fight against climate change. She also met with Danish climate minister Dan Joergensen at Bute House, before holding talks with Denmark’s foreign affairs minister Jeppe Kofod (below).

Sturgeon will use her speech today to discuss what the country can contribute and gain from its work with Arctic nations on environmental matters.

The event will see heads of states and governments, ministers, members of parliaments, scientists, entrepreneurs, environmentalists and activists attend to talk about the Arctic’s future.

It is Sturgeon’s first in-person international event for nearly two years, coming just weeks before the COP26 summit in Glasgow. Sharing footage of the arrival in Iceland, she said she would be holding “a number of bilateral meetings and visits” there.

Before her trip, the First Minister said the Arctic nations have a “major contribution” to the fight against the climate emergency.

“We will work with them whenever we can to deliver real and lasting change which will benefit not only the Arctic region but the entire world,” she added.
