BORIS Johnson does not seem to have even been aware that Douglas Ross was speaking at a Tory conference event on Sunday.

The news may not come as much of a surprise for those of us who remember the time the Prime Minister failed to even remember the Scottish Tory leader’s name.

Speaking at a fringe event - as he hasn’t been given a slot on the Tory conference main stage - Ross claimed that Nicola Sturgeon is “out of touch” with the working class in Scotland which his party represents.

Asked about these comments, Boris Johnson said he had no idea of the “context” in which Ross had made the claims.

“Look, I don’t know in what context Douglas was making that point, but if he’s talking about the business of trying to move beyond Covid and what we’re doing with the post-Covid approach, ending the Covid uplift …” Johnson said.

“It’s quotes from his conference speech today. Have you read his conference speech?” STV’s Kathryn Samson asked.

Johnson deftly dodged that question - although the answer is pretty clear.

In paying scant regard to the words that come out of Douglas Ross’s mouth, Boris Johnson at least seems to have something in common with the working class people of Scotland.

Although to be fair to the Prime Minister, he seems to have had a busy Sunday, far too busy to watch or read Douglas Ross's speech. Johnson was out baking cakes, playing table tennis, and painting bumblebees...
