LIZ Truss has been promoted to Foreign Secretary during Boris Johnson's cabinet reshuffle.

The former Secretary of State for International Trade was seen going into Downing Street on Wednesday afternoon.

Number 10 sources have confirmed the appointment.

Johnson demoted Dominic Raab, who has been widely criticised for his handling of the Afghanistan crisis, moving him from the Foreign Office to a demotion as Justice Secretary.

As Truss takes over at the Foreign Office and, with Priti Patel remaining at the Home Office, two of the great offices of state are now held by women.

Michael Gove has been appointed Housing Minister but will still hold responsibility over the Union and elections, Number 10 said.
