WHEN the SNP conferences were held in Aberdeen, the pre-conference events held by Aberdeen Independence Movement (AIM) became an established feature.
The AIM pre-conference has seen Ian Blackford, Kirsty Blackman, Philippa Whitford, Aamer Anwar, and Alan Bissett take part, but last year the party conference scheduled for Aberdeen fell victim to Covid-19 and was held virtually. In turn, AIM decided to do a virtual pre-conference event which turned out to be a big success with around 250 attendees.
With the date for the SNP conference now confirmed, AIM Aberdeen are delighted to be putting on another pre-conference virtual event. AIM’s “big night in part 2" will take place on September 9 starting at 7pm and finishing around 10pm.
AIM stated: “Plans for the showcase event are well underway, with music from Aberdeenshire quine Iona Fyfe confirmed. The evening will be a mixture of music, speeches, discussion, networking with Nat roulette, and a virtual bar area.

“So far, the evening will see a panel discussion with members of the Social Justice and Fairness commission Neil Gray MSP and Julie Hepburn and hosted by AIM co-chair Fatima Joji. Theo Forbes will be interviewing Stephen Flynn MP and there will be keynote speeches from several leading lights in the party with Karen Adam MSP and party president Michael Russell finishing the evening with the keynote speech. AIM have also been given permission to use the Gary Innes and IDMacG music throughout the event.”
“AIM have released a promotional film for the event last Sunday and if this film is anything to go by the evening is going to be something special. Catch the promo film here: fb.watch/7fLPUbATAl.”
AIM co-organiser Alan Petrie added: “Last year’s virtual event surpassed our expectations, and the feedback was tremendous, which has meant we had to do another one.
“We were hoping to get back to doing an in-person event, but it’s the virtual world for a bit longer. So we will try and create an event where people can catch up and socialise and have a good time before the conference starts.”
The virtual event will be hosted on the Balloon platform, which allows excellent networking. The organisers are urging early booking book, as ticket sales will allow the organisers to make the event even better. The early bird tickets are just £6 – full price £10 – and will be on sale soon.
Petrie said: “There are also sponsorship opportunities for any company who wants some exposure, and there are exhibition opportunities also, as we will be making full use of the platform’s exhibition space.
“If you are interested in sponsorship or a virtual exhibition stall, please get in touch with AIM at aberdeenaim@gmail.com”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
