NICOLA Sturgeon is set to deliver a coronavirus announcement as the country begins its first week in level 0.

The First Minister will announce the latest figures and take questions from journalists as she addresses the nation from Edinburgh.

What’s already been announced?

Scotland was moved into the lowest level of restrictions at the start of this week – though ministers have stressed that Scots must continue adhering to the rules that remain in place.

The move has been described by Sturgeon as “a further gradual easing of Covid restrictions – but not a wholesale abandoning of restrictions”.

That’s in contrast to England, where all remaining rules were axed as part of so-called “Freedom Day”.

What’s likely to come up at the briefing?

Boris Johnson spent “Freedom Day” in isolation after coming into contact with someone who tested positive. The Prime Minister is now facing tricky questions about the reopening of nightclubs and Covid passports.

Such issues are likely to crop up at Sturgeon’s press conference.

Dr Nicola Steadman, Scotland's deputy chief medical officer, explained earlier that a Covid passport scheme could "in theory" encourage more youngsters to get their jags – but she raised doubts about whether it would be "the right and equal thing to do".

What time does it start?

The briefing will begin at 12.15pm (Tuesday July 20).

Where can I watch it?

The conference will be broadcast on the Scottish Government’s social media platforms as well as the BBC Scotland channel from 12.05pm.
