MOTD Live: Uefa Euro 2020 (BBC1, 7pm)

ACTION in the delayed European Championship begins tonight at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, where Gary Lineker is joined by Alan Shearer, Rio Ferdinand and Thierry Henry to present coverage of Turkey v Italy in Group A. The Turks will be looking for a better showing than 2016, when they finished third in a group also containing Croatia, Spain and the Czech Republic. Meanwhile, Italy, runners-up in 2012, are the group favourites, with former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini leading the Azzurri to a major tournament for the first time.

Gregg Wallace’s Big Weekend Away (C5, 8pm)

THE MasterChef judge explores a perennial favourite for a weekend getaway – Amsterdam. The Dutch city is one of Europe’s prettiest, and while staying on its famous canals, Wallace finds out more about its fascinating history. He visits famed art galleries and tours the canals, uncovering how and why Amsterdam became known as the most liberal place in Europe. Of course, he also gets stuck into the food – from the super-traditional to the Dutch equivalent of a Friday night curry – the Indonesian.

Great Paintings Of The World With Andrew Marr (C5, 9pm)

THE second series begins with the first and perhaps most influential art installation ever created – Claude Monet’s Water Lilies. Marr travels to Paris to explore the remarkable story of a cycle of massive flower paintings, works that move him almost beyond measure. But behind these beautiful, serene canvasses lies a tale of personal tragedy, a brutal war and a man tormented by an unrelenting obsession.

Gardeners’ World (BBC2, 9pm)
