IT'S Nicola Sturgeon and Boris Johnson as you've never seen them before – characters in Sega classic Sonic the Hedgehog.

SNP leader Sturgeon is clad in her signature red, not Sonic blue, in this reimagining of the 90s console favourite.

Instead of facing villain Dr Robotnik, she's up against Dr Bo-jotnik and collects SNP thistles, not golden rings in Green Hill Zone.

The footage is the work of Reddit user Lower_Gas2349 and was shared on Twitter by SNP Glasgow list candidate Alex Kerr, a keen gamer.

Two short clips have been released and a playable version followed last night.

Kerr said: "Nicola Sturgeon has added a new award to her list – she's now the first national politician to step in for Sonic the Hedgehog in a video game. Doctor Bo-jotnik must be quaking in his ship at the thought of a strong SNP government coming out of these elections.

"Just like Sonic, the SNP know that people have 'gotta go fast' in their daily lives. That's why we have committed to nationalising Scotrail, decarbonising our railways by 2035 and will be investing over £33 billion in our National Infrastructure over the next parliamentary term.

"We will knuckle down to build a fairer country and leave the Tories chasing our tails. Make it Both Votes SNP on 6th May to put Scotland's recovery firmly in Scotland's hands and build a greener future Sonic would be proud of."An SNP spokesperson said: "It's always good to see fresh and colourful campaigning methods - especially when the usual methods have been somewhat restricted because of the pandemic.

"Green Hill Zone sounds like a great place with the potential to become even better when the big decisions are made by the people that live there. Make it Both Votes SNP at the polls to put Scotland's future in Scotland's hands - not Boris Johnson's."
