The National:

WHETHER it’s Union flags on playparks or £200 million royal yachts, we are constantly being reminded of our place in the Union.

Just when you forget Scotland is chained to a government run by a man who can’t even explain how he pays his nanny, something crops up to remind you.

The latest reminder has come courtesy of the British Broadcasting Corporation, which in these unprecedented times is doing its patriotic duty – including “Britain” in the title of every second programme.

Viewers couldn’t help but notice that tonight’s schedule is particularly Britain heavy.

Writer Jonathan Coe tweeted: “Looking at tonight's TV guide I see BBC2 is offering us Great British Railway Journeys followed by Great British Menu, with The Great British Sewing Bee over on BBC1. Plus a Panorama report called 'Am I British?'”

Scottish viewers are not spared the British bonanza, with all the shows on the BBC Scotland schedule too.

The TV listings caught the attention of disgruntled viewers.

David Baddiel commented: “I'm thinking of pitching The Great British Television Schedule.”

Another person wrote: “I can't tell if this is toxic patriotism or the complete lack of imagination/laziness of TV execs in programme names and formats.”

A further post read: “The Great British Broadcasting Corporation has gone all Brexity”

Others imagined how a narrator may present the schedule …

“Tonight on Hell Island,” one tweeted.
