ITV Border will be broadcasting the Scottish political leaders’ debate this evening, despite TV listings to the contrary.
Thousands of Scots across Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders, who receive the channel in place of STV broadcasts, looked set to miss out on the chance to watch the debate live.
Although STV had the leaders’ debate in their schedule from 7:30pm until 9pm, ITV Border’s schedule seemed to mirror ITV’s, playing episodes of Emmerdale and Coronation Street at that time.
The ITV Border channel also covers most of the English region of Cumbria and parts of Northumberland.

When approached by The National on how Scots living in the ITV Border catchment area could watch the STV leaders’ clash, a spokesperson said it would be shown live on the channel.
It is unclear why the debate was not included on ITV Border listings.
SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon will once again be up against Douglas Ross from the Scottish Conservatives, Anas Sarwar from Scottish Labour and Willie Rennie from the LibDems.
Patrick Harvie will represent the Scottish Greens this time, switching in for co-leader Lorna Slater.
Alex Salmond’s Alba and George Galloway’s All for Unity will not be represented at the debate.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
