VOICES for Scotland is continuing its series of online events as they once again host a “get together” in an open forum with members of the public to discuss campaigning for independence.

The campaigning arm of the Scottish Independence Convention, Voices for Scotland has been very active during lockdown which, as every Yes activist knows, presents many challenges when it comes to campaigning, but also provides opportunities to connect as more and more people embrace new technologies.

The latest virtual event will take place tomorrow evening. Voices told The National: “These meetings give people an excellent opportunity to get together, discuss ideas and set out actions for how we grow support for independence. With this in mind the Voices team will present updates and strategies for how we move the campaign for independence forward and listen, reflect and discuss ideas from participants on what needs to happen next to grow support. This semi-structured, open forum meeting has proven to be incredibly useful setting out campaigning priorities and utilising the collective talents of the grassroots independence movement.

“Tomorrow, we will get together and look at how the Be A Voice campaign is going, provide updates and look at other solutions on how we can better share stories, connect with undecided voters and get the right information to the people who need it most.

“There will also be a callout for volunteers to help grow the Voices campaign, which is a civic led, non party political and a platform for the many voices across Scotland’s society.

“Last week Voices for Scotland hosted an incredibly successful event with the team behind, and participants of, the Citizen’s Assembly. This event looked at the importance of public engagement in setting out a vision for a future Scotland – an inherent characteristic of Voices for Scotland as an organisation.

“The campaign sessions build upon that approach by gathering information and ideas from those who want to do something for independence and help shape the conversation and campaign strategy for how we move forward as an organisation and as a movement.”

Allan Whyte, Campaign Organiser at Voices for Scotland said: “The tribal nature of party politics is a source of division for people who could otherwise be united by a collective will to create a better Scotland. If you want to do something for independence that is meaningful and helps us move towards a fairer, more equal, independent Scotland, then you can start with coming along to this get together and being part of the conversation on how we get there.”
