NUMBER crunchers at Action for Independence (AFI) have called out critics of their strategy to Max the Yes vote at Holyrood with a 36-page “plain language” report backing up the party’s arguments.

AFI is only standing on the regional list in May’s poll and has consistently argued that both votes for the SNP allows Unionist parties in by default.

Critics have claimed the SNP1 AFI2 tactic will not work, but the new party has issued a detailed rebuttal which has been months in the making.

AFI analysts have crunched the numbers from the regional list in the 2016 election and projections from a July 2020 opinion poll to calculate what would have happened had they existed four years ago.

They are certain that if the #MaxTheYes strategy is adopted by significant numbers of Yes voters, the Yes movement would have a supermajority in the Scottish Parliament.

AFI interim leader, former SNP MSP Dave Thompson said: “This is a fantastic and scholarly piece of work that shows the potential for both the Max the Yes strategy in May and Action for Independence as a vehicle for that strategy.”

AFI is now properly registered with the Electoral Commission after a lengthy delay and Martin Keatings, the party’s new national media adviser, added: “The UK’s electoral system is built on political competition. The Electoral Commission is a product of that system.”

“Consequentially, it has never really had a need to evaluate an application trying to bring consensus on a constitutional matter. Hence the extra work.”
