MORE than 4000 Scots have now pledged to try and convert someone they know to the pro-independence cause through The National's Yes Challenge.

Run in partnership with Business for Scotland, the latest milestone means the challenge has achieved 80% of its target.

The drive, which takes inspiration from the concept of "each one, teach one", has won praise from prominent politicians and celebrities as a great way of furthering the Yes cause.

SNP president Michael Russell, actor Alan Cumming, and singer-songwriter Eddi Reader are just three of the thousands to have put their names to the pledge.

Gordon MacIntyre-Kemp, from Business for Scotland, said it was a great way of reaching outside the "Yes bubble" to undecided voters.

He said: "We will only win the next referendum by opening the minds of those intrigued but not yet convinced, and the Yes Challenge is a great way of doing that.

"It reaches outside the Yes bubble to those wavering voters who want the right information to answer their questions and encourage them to take the leap."

However, MacIntyre-Kemp stressed that the job is not done yet.

He said: "The response so far has been encouraging but we need more people within the Yes movement to enrol one or more of their friends to take the challenge. The more people who take part the more votes we will win for independence when the referendum takes place."
