DONALD Trump should be arrested for breaching coronavirus rules if he flees to Scotland at the end of the month, an MSP has claimed.

There has been speculation that the president is planning on flying to his loss-making Turnberry golf course in a bid to avoid Joe Biden’s inauguration.

Reports over the weekend suggested Prestwick has been told to expect the arrival of a US military Boeing 757 aircraft, that is occasionally used by Trump, on January 19 – the day before his Democrat rival formally becomes president.

Over the weekend, a source at the airport told the Sunday Post: “There is a booking for an American military version of the Boeing 757 on January 19, the day before the inauguration.

“That’s one that’s normally used by the vice-president but often used by the first lady.

“Presidential flights tend to get booked far in advance, because of the work that has to be done around it.”

Trump has not yet said if he will attend Biden’s inauguration.

He insists that he was robbed of victory in the US election because of a widespread voter fraud.

Though there is still no evidence to back that claim up.

In an interview with Fox News last month, Trump was asked if he would attend the inauguration and he said that he did not want to talk about that.

With Covid cases rising rapidly due to a new variant of the virus, the Scottish Government has brought in a raft of new rules.

There are now limits to travel into and around the country.

Asked about the possibility of a visit from the outgoing American Commander-in-Chief, Nicola Sturgeon said she hoped that Trump’s immediate travel plan was “to exit the White House”.

She added: “We are not allowing people to come into Scotland without an essential purpose right now and that would apply to him just as applies to anybody else.

“Coming to play golf is not what I would consider to be an essential purpose.”

The White House have not denied the reports Trump is coming to Scotland, though they’ve moved to downplay the speculation.

Judd Deere, the deputy White House press secretary, told Fox News in a statement: “Anonymous sources who claim to know what the President is or is not considering have no idea.”

Deere continued: “When President Trump has an announcement about his plans for Jan. 20. he will let you know.”

Scottish Green co-leader Patrick Harvie told the National: “The last thing a locked down Scotland needs is a huffy Donald Trump arriving on our shores.

“Moving house might be one of the exemptions laid out in the new lockdown rules, but I’m not sure heading for Turnberry having been kicked out the White House is quite in the spirit of them.

“Trump coming to Scotland during lockdown might not be a complete waste of time though.

“We could nick him for breaching the travel restrictions and be ready to hand him over when the US authorities come looking for him.”

Harvie added: “Either way, the Scottish Government needs to slap an unexplained wealth order on him, forcing him to account for the cash purchases of his Ayrshire and Aberdeenshire courses.”
