ABERDEEN Independence Movement (AIM) has launched a campaign to encourage the use of postal voting.

In what has previously been a controversial issue for indy supporters, not least because of widely held view that the Unionist side “fixed” postal voting in the 2014 referendum, AIM went public with its group decision on its Facebook page.

They stated: “We are glad to launch the start of our “Turn your post box into a ballot box” campaign. We as a group believe it very important to tackle harmful myths around postal voting. The campaign will aim to give people information on how the system works, how it makes sense for a campaign and how conspiracy only helps the Union.”

Some people immediately disagreed on the page. Tommy Boyle wrote: “Beyond belief any independence-supporting groups could encourage postal voting, simply unbelievable.

AIM replied: “As the group bio states, we as a group do not entertain conspiracy theories in any form. The myths around postal votes are unhelpful and only benefit the Union.

“Who gains from mistrust in this system? It ain’t us. What happens if you are told to self-isolate and you have not sorted out a postal vote?”
