SCOTLAND has recorded another 50 coronavirus deaths, the First Minister confirmed during FMQs this afternoon.

It takes the total number of people who have died after testing positive for coronavirus in the prior 28 days to 4039.

The figures differ from those reported by the National Records of Scotland, which publishes all deaths where Covid-19 is considered a contributory or linked factor.

Nicola Sturgeon added there had been 933 new Covid-19 cases recorded, accounting for 4.7% of all tests carried out.

The number of people to test positive for the virus since the beginning of the year is now 103,305.

There are 984 people in hospital, 12 more than the previous day, and 52 people in intensive care, up two.

During her update the First Minister also confirmed more than 5000 people were vaccinated for Covid-19 during the first part of this week’s roll-out.

Sturgeon also said that the latest data showed the R number – the average number of people infected by each person with Covid-19 – had “fallen further below one”.

She added this showed that the restrictions in place are “having the desired effect”.
