Summer on the Farm: An Extraordinary Year (STV, 8pm)

ALAN Titchmarsh, Angellica Bell and Yorkshire shepherdess Amanda Owen find out how fruit and vegetables make their way to the supermarket. It may feel like there have been a lot of documentaries along those lines, but this trio are discovering why this year has been particularly challenging for farmers, who have been forced to contend with a reduced workforce, unprecedented demand and extreme weather.

The Great British Bake Off (C4, 8pm)

WE only have two more weeks after this week’s show and then GBBO will be done for another year. Tonight, Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith crank up the pressure on the remaining contestants with three tricky challenges for dessert week. They are classic cheesecake for the signature, a technical that dates back to the 17th century and a show-stopping jelly art dessert cake featuring delicate sponge. Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas are on hand for any unexpected wobbles and to announce this week’s Star Baker and who hasn’t made it to the semi-final.

MasterChef: The Professionals (BBC1, 9pm)

WITH the hospitality industry facing one of the most critical times in its history, this series is here to remind us just how much talent there is among chefs. To give them even more of a showcase, the series is making the jump from BBC2 to BBC1. In the infamous skills test, the first four challengers are asked to produce mushroom tortellini with a mushroom duxelles and a sauce; a devilled butterflied mackerel with herb-flavoured mayo and a cucumber and fennel salad; and their Signature Dish.

Industry (BBC2, 9.15pm)

ACCORDING to Lena Dunham, the writer-director behind the acclaimed (if hugely divisive) US series Girls, the new eight-part drama is a cross between Martin Scorsese’s movie The Wolf of Wall Street and the American soap Melrose Place. Dunham is one of the executive producers and it’s easy to see what she means. The series follows a group of young graduates competing for a limited set of permanent positions at a top investment bank in London. Sadly, it quickly becomes clear that for one of them it’s all going to be a bit too much.
