Between the Covers (BBC2, 7.30pm)

IT’S the fourth chapter of this excellent series celebrating the joys of a good book, and host Sara Cox invites four more celebrities to each bring along their favourite book of all time to discuss. It’s a tried-and-tested format for radio, with Radio 4’s A Good Read being a firm fixture, but it’s pleasing to see how well it has transferred to the telly. It could be we’ve all had a little more reading time over the summer just gone, but this celebration of the written word seems well past due.

Secret Scotland with Susan Calman (C5, 8pm)

SURELY a contender for the world’s highest-ranking bird is Sir Nils Olav III, a king penguin who is the mascot, brigadier and, officially, colonel-in-chief of the Norwegian King’s Guard. He resides in Edinburgh Zoo, and our intrepid guide to the hidden bits of Caledonia, Susan Calman, comes to meet him as she explores the central belt of Scotland. It’s an area many people only see from the side window of a car on the M8, but there’s much to find here, as Susan discovers – including evidence of the forgotten ceramics industry of Portobello.

The Same Sky (More4, 9pm)

AS the compelling Cold War drama set in 1970s Berlin continues, Lars proves to be a natural at his Romeo assignment. After finding a way to break the ice with Lauren at the cafe she frequents, he effectively gets under her skin, leaving her prey to emotions she thought she’d buried. Back in East Berlin, Klara develops a troubling side-effect while doggedly pursuing her Olympic goal. Plus, Axel is let in on an incredible secret when he meets up with a former lover.

Later – with Jools Holland (BBC2, 10pm)

THERE’S a real meeting of musical minds this week as Jools welcomes none other than Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker to his show, talking to him about his musical journey and punctuating the chat with clips from the Later archive. And that’s a deep well from which to draw, as Cocker has been on many a Later and Hootenanny show, albeit most recently in 2006, when he unveiled his debut solo album. Aside from the headline act of Cocker, debutants Greentea Peng and Working Men’s Club also make an appearance.
