A TOURISM industry group has teamed up with over 100 businesses across the Glasgow to offer a new gifting incentive scheme to reboot the sector’s economy.

The coronavirus lockdown has taken a massive toll on businesses with many in the city and across the country announcing staff redundancies or closing for good.

But tourism umbrella organisation Experience Glasgow is aiming to welcome back visitors to the city with its city-wide gift card scheme.

Working with a variety of local businesses to create a new autumn Gift Your Glasgow campaign that will be launching offers and incentives next month, the group hopes to get Glaswegians shopping local again.

Businesses taking part in the gift card initiative include Fore Play Crazy Golf, outdoor adventure specialists Pinkston, late-night boutique bowling alley Bowlarama and more.

Foodies will enjoy family-run Italian restaurants Il Pavone and Eusebi Deli and Restaurant, alongside steak specialists The Spanish Butcher.

Bars include the tropical Tiki Bar and Kitsch Inn along with modern Scottish pub, The Gate.

Gordon McIntyre, vice chairman of Experience Glasgow, said: “Supporting independent business has never been easier with the Glasgow Gift Card – a prepaid Mastercard that encourages spend right here in the city.

“If there is a local small business that you love, they need your support now more than ever. Many businesses are closing, and others are seeing reduced demand.

“The Glasgow gift card is the perfect way for you to show your support. Whether you give a present to a friend or treat yourself to an experience, be sure to look out for our new campaign launching next month.”

Starting from next month the gift card scheme will announce special offers and incentives that city-goers can redeem across Glasgow to support local businesses, drive destination footfall and spend across the city.
