ON the day that two separate polls showed majority backing for a Yes vote, independence supporters gathered at Bannockburn for another successful demonstration.

The socially distanced All Under One Banner (AUOB) event was organised to demand land reform and the reignition of the Yes campaign.

It brought together a small number of protesters and speakers at the historic site in Stirling.

On the aims of the demonstrations, AUOB organiser Keir McKechnieexplained: “Land ownership in our country is more concentrated than in any other western nation. Fewer than 500 people own the majority of the private land.

“In the future, an independent Scotland will rely heavily on what its land produces and if this essential supply chain is in the hands of a very few it will perpetuate increasing inequality and inefficiency, so urgent land reform is essential.”

Fellow organiser Carol McNamara added: “All Under One Banner believes that NOW is the time to build on the huge and growing support for independence to make the necessary plans for land reform.

“Diversifying land ownership in Scotland will result in a flourishing of innovative uses of land. Currently close to one fifth of Scotland’s land is managed intensively for the sole purpose of shooting grouse, when instead we could have thriving rural communities using the land for productive economic activity.”
