Restoration Workshop (Yesterday, 8pm)
ANY similarity between this series and The Repair Shop is purely coincidental, not least because items in the BBC show are restored for sentimental value. In this show, cash is the order of the day as antiques dealer and restorer Gary Wallis and his team of craftspeople turn tired and unloved items into objects that will turn a large profit. In episode one they restore a Grenadier guard’s drum, create a garden feature from a helicopter tripod, and re-purpose a vintage car grille into a shining design classic.
The Yorkshire Vet (C5, 8pm)
JULIAN Norton races to an emergency at a local farm where a cow is unable to stand up. She is suffering from milk fever, a condition caused by calcium deficiency. Julian has to be extremely careful with his treatment, one wrong move and the cow’s life is in danger. Meanwhile, Peter Wright attempts to save three-week-old Sphynx kitten Dobby who has pneumonia. It’s touch and go whether he will pull through. During this week’s rounds we also meet Princess the chihuahua who has a worrying lump and there’s an anxious wait while Julian performs surgery. Elsewhere, vet Sarah has a close encounter with a feisty goose.

This Farming Life (BBC2, 8pm)
THE documentary series returns, following six new farming families through a challenging year. It begins last summer, when the biggest concern for many of the farmers is the uncertainty around Brexit. In Armadale in West Lothian, Joyce Campbell is hoping to get a good price for 600 of her best North Country Cheviot lambs at one of Europe’s biggest sheep sales. Isla and George French in Aberdeenshire have an unusual mix of livestock, including ostriches.
Babs (BBC1, 8.30pm)
BIOPIC of Barbara Windsor, following the key events of her life over 50 years. The story begins in 1993, as she prepares for a stage performance shortly before joining the cast of EastEnders. She looks back to her childhood as a Second World War evacuee, her rise to fame in the Carry On films and her difficult relationships with her father and first husband, gangster Ronnie Knight. Samantha Spiro, Jaime Winstone, Honor Kneafsey and Windsor herself share the lead role.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
