FURTHER pubs in England have had to close again as customers tested positive for Covid-19 after visiting them.

On Saturday pubs in England were able to reopen again following months of lockdown. On Tuesday The National reported that a handful of pubs south of the Border had already needed to close their doors again as people with confirmed coronavirus had been on the premises.

The Lighthouse in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, the Fox & Hounds, in Batley, West Yorkshire and The Village Home in Alverstoke, Hampshire were the first to close again following the easing of lockdown restrictions in England.

Now two further pubs have shut their doors once more. The Angel and the Boot and Shoe, both located in Ackworth, near Wakefield, joined the list of premises shutting up shop temporarily due to people with Covid-19 being present.

Boot and Shoe said a customer who had visited on Saturday afternoon had received a positive test, and a deep clean would be carried out. They said they were working with NHS Track and Trace to contact all the customers who were in the establishment that day.

The pub hopes to reopen on Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Angel also said it would be deep-cleaning after a customer was confirmed to have the virus.

They said: "We are waiting for further information from Wakefield council and will update you all when we know further.

"All our staff who were working that night have been informed of the best guidance to follow whether this be testing or isolation."

Pubs in England which have reopened after lockdown must follow strict social distancing guidelines. Upon entry customers must provide their contact details, and they can only order food and drink through table service.

In Scotland, pubs and restaurants can reopen from July 15.
