THERE have been no further coronavirus deaths recorded in Scotland over the last 24 hours.
Scottish Government figures show the number of people who have died after testing positive for Covid-19 stays at 2088.
The data also shows there have been 11 new cases of the virus recorded over the last day.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon commented on the new figures, tweeting: "Another day yesterday with no confirmed positive COVID deaths registered in Scotland (and on a weekday too, so without the caveat of lower weekend registrations that applies to Sun/Mon figures). Let’s keep at it, to sustain progress. Time to take extra care, not drop our guard."
According to the National Records of Scotland, there were 4155 coronavirus deaths recorded up to June 28. The organisation reports deaths where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate as well as where there has been a positive test.
The new figures come as a handful of new lockdown easing measures are implemented in Scotland. From today people can travel further than five miles for recreational purposes, while beer gardens and outdoor hospitality venues can reopen from Monday.
Children under the age of 12 now do not need to maintain two-metre social distancing rules while outdoors so can play with friends and hug grandparents unrestricted.
The only place where the five-mile rule has not been lifted is in the Annan and Gretna areas, as the result of a new outbreak there.
People in those towns, as well as Dumfries, Lockerbie, Langholm and Canonbie should continue to follow the five-mile limit until contact tracing has been completed.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also urged residents there not to cross the Border for pubs reopening in England.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
