DONALD Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner has said the US government’s response to coronavirus has been a “great success” – despite the pandemic now having seen more Americans die in three months than during the entire Vietnam War.
Speaking to Fox News today, Kushner claimed the US is now “on the other side of the medical aspect of this”.
As the number of confirmed cases surpassed one million, Kushner told the broadcaster: “We’re on the other side of the medical aspect of this.

“We’ve achieved all the different milestones that are needed. The federal government rose to the challenge, and this is a great success story.”

The number of American fatalities throughout the 19-year-long Vietnam War was 58,220.
The US has received criticism for its approach to the coronavirus pandemic. Trump and right-wing media have been accused of initially playing down the severity of the crisis.
The Trump administration had cut funding to essential health services and research before the crisis. The White House has also received criticism for being slow on testing, border closures and lockdown measures.
Last week there was outrage when Trump suggested injecting disinfectant to treat Covid-19 during a press briefing. He later said he could not imagine why calls to US hotlines about disinfectant had risen after making the comment.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
