Animal Rescue School (C4, 6pm)
THE youngest student in the class comes to the rescue of a malnourished swan, while a former probation officer helps the police to crack down on illegal blood sport in Lincolnshire. The trainees also get some practical experience as they begin to develop the wildlife-handling skills that will prove crucial for the job, but that doesn’t mean they can neglect the theory as they also face a wave of exams on animal welfare law, and Rowena in particular is feeling the pressure.
In for a Penny (STV, 8pm)
STEPHEN Mulhern returns with the entertainment show in which he travels the country and challenges members of the public to all manner of silly games, from guessing the price of their supermarket shopping to winning their petrol, if they can stop the fuel gun without going one penny over. But the main game is In for a Penny, in which anyone with a one pence coin can take on a series of crazy challenges, with £1000 going to anyone who gets through them all. It’s daft and it’s simple but fun.

Meanwhile, Lev is struggling to cope with Luka’s chemotherapy and tries to distract himself with work.

Brave (2012) (BBC1, 5.15pm)
SET in a mythical Highlands, this fable of female empowerment maintains the high standards expected of the digital wizards at Disney Pixar. Stronger (2017) (BBC2, 9pm)
DAVID Gordon Green’s uplifting drama relives the 2013 Boston marathon bombing from the perspective of Jeff Bauman, who was a well-wisher in the crowd that fateful day and lost both of his legs in the blast. Adapted from Bauman’s memoir, Stronger chronicles events before and after the race, capturing the toll on Jeff and the people around him.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
