What is the book about?
The two-part play is set 19 years after the final book in the Harry Potter series and focuses on two generations, the main characters of the original series and their children. This is primarily Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy, who form a friendship, and we are allowed to follow their many adventures over their time at Hogwarts.
Who is it aimed at?
Though its premise and world was originally directed towards children and young people, it’s impossible to imagine this wasn’t aimed to appeal to everyone.
What was your favourite part?
My favourite part of this was that, rather than feeling like reading a new play, it felt like going back home after a long day. Of course there were new ideas and exciting characters but to re-enter that world was an astonishingly comfortable feeling that kept me reading all the way through. That feeling is what made it incredibly easy to finish in less than two days.
What was your least favourite part?
At some points the experience of reading it felt disconnected and even occasionally confusing with some of the links between plot points. Due to the legacy that it came from, it was difficult not to go in with high expectations.
Which character would you most like to meet?
As one of my favourite characters from the original Harry Potter books and a deeply important role model female character in my youth, to meet Hermione would still be a dream, especially with her growth as an adult in the play.
Why should someone buy this book?
After becoming one of the most famous and internationally adored series of children’s books years ago, it’s incredible to be able to revisit a world that means so much to so many people. My hope is that this continues to spread into the newer generations as it has so far and make an impact on their lives.
