Airdrie and Coatbridge are the “happening” places in the Yes movement at the moment, judging by the events being planned by local activists.

The new Airdrie and Coatbridge Women for Independence group is having its first meeting later today.

It’s happening fittingly, on the day before International Women’s Day. The informal meeting will be from from 3pm to 4pm in the Wellwynd Room at Airdrie Library.

The national WFI organisation say: “Please come along and support this new group. The meeting is open to all women and you can join any WFI local group (or more than one) so please give this group your support.

“If you are interested in finding out more about the group but can’t attend the meeting, then they can be contacted directly through Twitter or via the national co-ordinator at info@womenforindependence.org.”

Airdrie and Coatbridge WFI told us: “This is just a wee informal get together to get the ball rolling. Please join us.”

Meanwhile, the well-established Airdrie for Independence group is hosting a free talk by author, film producer and political blogger Gareth Wardell on Sunday, March 22 at 1pm in the One Wellwynd Centre in Airdrie.

Jim Cassidy of Airdrie for Independence told The National: “Gareth Wardell is known in the Scottish political world as the blogger Grouse Beater. He will explore a variety of topics, from his background in film, his writing and most importantly his views on Scottish politics.”
