Martin Metcalfe (be still my teenage heart) and his merry men in Goodbye Mr Mackenzie, fresh from the sold-out success of the gig of the year at the Barrowlands, are off to auld reekie this week. I stand by previous nauseating fan-girl posts in this column when I say that Scotland has never had a better band than GMM. Shirley Manson and Big John, previously of The Exploited, went off to work with Garbage and Nirvana respectively, while Metcalfe and Kelly and Wilson formed the incredible The Filthy Tongues. They’re all (minus Manson) back together for the Good Deeds reunion tour. This is not a gig you want to miss. The Liquid Rooms, December 29, 7pm. 2This column is a fan of indy in all ways. Wee shops, craft markets, boutique businesses, indie music and, of course, indy politics. We make no secret of our support for local and independent businesses and events. This week one of our favourite scenes, The Dockyard Social, is putting on a Hogmanay party with a difference. It’s before the bells, 5-10pm. You can take the weans and dugs, put a lining in your tummy before the clock strikes party time. Tickets are a £5 but they are redeemable against food or drink at any of the street food and drink stalls. https://www.dockyardsocial.com/product/new-years-5-10pm

The popular indy-supporting superstar and folk pop chanteuse, Eddi Reader – formerly of Fairground Attraction before launching a hugely successful solo career – tours her latest album Vagabond. She is playing on December 30 at The Old Dr Bells Baths, 121 Great Junction Street in Leith. Tickets are £21 and available at www.eddireader.co.uk

Tam Coyle, great friend of this column and newspaper, is bringing the wheels of steel to the Tartan Army Hogmanay party at Stramash on the Cowgate. These parties are legendary and have been known to see some well-kent faces turn up. It’s on Friday from 2pm-11.30pm and the line up includes Ted Christopher and Bannockburn, Clann an Drumma as well as Mr Coyle himself. Tickets £15 on the door.

It would be bad manners, surely, not to turn up when the legendary Buster Bloodvessel hits Glasgow this week. Bad Manners, the brilliant ska band from the 80s, are still doing it in the here and now. Their gigs have always had an element of notoriety and this one will be no different. My girl lollipops should get themselves tickets to this gig on New Year’s Day at Slay, Glassford Street, Glasgow. Tickets £25

Stirling Castle is the place to be at Hogmanay, which will host two fantastic parties. The midnight party will be headlined by the Treacherous Orchestra. An exciting array of music and entertainment will also be on offer at the family-friendly concert earlier in the evening, featuring, among others, gifted young singer Gemma Lamont. Both events will culminate with incredible fireworks displays. More details at stirlingwinterfestival.com

The View frontman Kyle Falconer (pictured) is taking himself to sunny Paisley this week, and will be playing an intimate solo show tonight at the Bungalow. What a pleasant way to spend a Sunday night in the wee cold boring days between Christmas and the bells. Tickets £20 at https://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/Paisley/The-Bungalow-Bar
