A BOLD group of independence supporters have gone the extra 500 miles to take their message directly to the heart of UK Government in London.
As a result, Londoners woke up yesterday to giant banners erected across some of the city’s most famous landmarks, urging people to vote the Tories out.
The colourful banners also accused Tory leader Boris Johnson of lying.
Festooned across London Bridge and at the bottom of Nelson’s column as well as the entrance to Downing Street and outside Westminster, they read: “Boris Johnson is lying – Scots Tories have sold Scotland out – vote them out!”

They were erected by a group from Aye Aberdeen following their epic 500-mile tour of every Tory held constituency in Scotland.
Group member Jack Elphinstone said it was hoped that the latest stunt would capture the attention of London and broadcast the message back to Scotland and across the UK.
“Our aim is to stop people voting Conservative and motivate them to vote for other parties,” he said.
“We will only be content if no Conservatives are elected in Scotland next Thursday. The SNP are close to replacing them in every Tory held seat in Scotland although we will need the help of England and Wales to prevent a Conservative majority.”
He added that the group’s key messages should resonate with voters across the UK.
“Boris Johnson is a proven liar, he should not be trusted to govern the UK for five more years,” said Elphinstone.
“The Scottish Tories have sold Scotland out by backing Brexit against the wishes of the majority of their constituents. If re-elected they will hand Boris a blank cheque for a hard Brexit and a mandate to continue to implement cruel and damaging policies over the next five years.” The group believes it is essential that health services are protected by stopping the Tories’ aim of leaving the EU, the world’s largest trading block – therefore handing the future of the UK’s healthcare to US President Donald Trump.

“The Scottish health service will be sacrificed as Boris begs for a trade deal to sustain exports,” said Elphinstone. “Westminster has already revoked procurement powers from the Scottish Parliament for seven years.”
He pointed out that Scotland had not voted Conservative in any of the group’s lifetimes yet the country had been “subjected” to 36 years of Tory government in that period.
Elphinstone added: “The Conservative Government has no mandate to remove Scotland from the EU against our will.
“Keep Scotland’s future in Scotland’s hands by making sure you vote in the General Election on December 12.
“We call on like-minded people in England and Wales not to vote Conservative, please don’t hand them control of all of our futures for the next five years.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
