THE SNP has hit out at the LibDems for running refusing to own up to their record in coalition with the Tories.

In last night’s STV debate with Scottish party leaders, Willie Rennie tried to brush off the voting record of his party colleagues when the party was in coalition with the Tories from 2010.

Nicola Sturgeon told the LibDem leader his party backed a Tory austerity agenda which included WASPI women denied their state pensions. The acronym stands for Women Against State Pension Inequality and refers to the UK Government move to raise the age at which women can claim state support.

SNP candidate for East Dunbartonshire, Amy Callaghan, said: “The LibDems can’t wriggle off the hook on their appalling record in government with the Tories.

“Jo Swinson and her Lib Dem colleagues were the midwives of a decade of Tory austerity, which has seen the poorest in our communities hit the hardest by harsh cuts.

“They waved through the Bedroom Tax, soaring tuition fees in England and Wales and pulled the rug from under the WASPI women, who have been completely shafted by successive UK governments. Their lack of moral compass is sickening – and Scotland will not forgive them.

“At this election, only the SNP can beat the Tories in Scotland. A vote for the SNP is a vote to escape the chaos of Brexit and to protect Scotland’s right to choose its own future – before Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage do it for us.”
