THOUSANDS of people gathered for dazzling displays in Scotland’s two biggest cities last night as their Christmas lights were switched on.

Festive revellers massed both in George Square and the Royal Mile as they were treated to firework shows and live music.

In the capital, local choirs and dance troupes performed alongside an ensemble of cast members from The Lion King.

Up to 13,000 people are thought to have attended the Glasgow event, which was hosted by Clyde 1 and featured performances from Michelle McManus and members of the SoundSational Choir and the cast of The Steamie.
