RUNNING in venues across Glasgow until November 10, visual sonic arts festival Sonica hosts more than 180 events featuring work by artists from Scotland and around the world. Here’s a pick of the highlights.

Cabosanroque: Joan Brossa Didn’t Make Me
Four hundred household objects make a thunderous soundtrack to a vast, rattling machine these Barcelona-based sound artists have created in tribute to the celebrated Catalan writer.

Nicolas Varchausky: Money Desk
The Argentina-based composer joins local performer Ceylan Hay to turn the silent processes of cash transactions into an intense barrage of sound using adapted counting, scanning and verification instruments.

AV Triple Bill
A haunting soundtrack accompanies images of ice floes and glaciers in Myriam Boucher’s Phases, Kathy Hinde explores birdsong in Twittering Machines and Sabina Covarrubias manipulates animations using techniques of musical composition in Trip. Another AV Triple Bill follows on November 8.

Luke Fowler: My Gourd Instruments
A live performance created for Hamilton Mausoleum, known for its 15-second echo, by the Turner Prize nominee using his hybrid versions of traditional gourd instruments.

Katie J Anderson: Sound Horn
Six giant gramophone speakers emit parts of a field recording to create a resonant sound experience in the maze at Pollok House.

Night Voyager

Glasgow composer Ela Orleans had access to Nasa's Apollo 11 archive in creating this major new work

Verdensteatret: Hannah
The pioneering Oslo collective bring their mix of music, art, theatre and documentary to Sonica with Hannah, a performance piece inspired by two trips along the Mekong River.

Dumbworld: He Did What?
Opera comes out into the streets as composer Brian Irvine and director John McIlduff mash music with a tale of revenge projected onto the walls.

Asuna: 100 Keyboards
The Japanese musician and sound artist creates sonic illusions from an orchestra of keyboards set up in the Engine Works, a renovated Victorian warehouse in Maryhill.

Hong Kong Exile: Foxconn Frequency (No 3)
Three classical pianists collaborate and compete in a fusion of composition and gaming in this UK premiere which features poetry by Xu Lizhi, a former worker at notorious tech firm Foxconn.
